Now, don't let the title fool you; this isn't a recipe for classic Southern sweet tea (although, we do have plenty of those!). This easy how-to from our friends at Firepot Nomadic Teas in Nashville, Tennessee is focused on the step before adding all the sugar you'd like – the brewing. While some folks may have their own secret formula to brewing the perfect cup of tea, Firepot swears by this steep time and treatment of their famous tea bags to yield a non-bitter sipper that you can doll up as you please. If you don't have any of their tea bags handy, you can swap in a large iced tea bag.
And, because it's summer in the South, we've poured their perfectly brewed black tea over ice and served it up with some lemon wedges. If you want to sweeten with sugar, be sure to add right after you've poured in the boiling water, so that the sugar molecules can dissolve and you won't have any grittiness in your tea. You can also add in some fresh mint to your tea when served over ice for a pretty presentation and a refreshing twist.
