The South is replete with fabulous hotels and inns, so coming up with the best is no small feat. For starters, bed-and-breakfasts are not included—comparing a huge resort hotel to a small inn is difficult enough. Our focus is on independent establishments. But some of the South’s great old hotels have come under corporate ownership in recent years, and you will still find them here.
