When it comes to a booming real estate market, Austin, Texas ranks with the highest of them. This relatively-central Texas city has hundreds of thousands of visitors flocking to it every year, with many deciding that they love ATX so much, they want to make it their home. Instead of our usual new-build Idea Houses, this circa-1980s home in Northwest Austin was the perfect space for designer Meredith Ellis, architect Chris Sanders, and husband-and-wife building team Catherine and David Wilkes to work their magic.
Behind the home's unique style is interior designer Meredith Ellis of Meredith Ellis Design. She took the renovation and ran with it, inspired by "its intangible Southern sensibility." We sat down with the designer behind the scenes of our 2018 Idea House to get a sense of her style and passion for design, and how that plays a role in this stunning, eclectic home. Not surprisingly, her Texas upbringing plays a large part in her work, as she tends to gravitate toward natural textures. She is willing to dig for and refurbish an old antique over new furniture, and she's got a go-to paint color that never lets her down. What's her dream decorating project? Stay tuned for some design and color inspiration from Meredith Ellis.
