Sweet and crunchy.
Unexpectedly creamy and ever so slightly tart.
Slivers of carrots studded with raisins—a side dish that practically doubles as a dessert.

Or it did, until Chick-fil-A phased out our beloved Carrot and Raisin Salad.
It wasn’t easy for them, we know, but losing that side dish wasn’t easy for us either. It disappeared from menus in 2015, and our #1 Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich Meals have never been the same. Some days, when we go to Chick-fil-A and nibble our waffle fries, we can’t help dreaming about a cup of Carrot and Raisin Salad. The experience is practically elegiac.
Before we heard the news, we tried to make a batch of Carrot and Raisin Salad ourselves, reverse engineering that creamy carrot mixture so that we could enjoy it on Sundays when, inevitably, we craved it. No matter how hard we tried, though, we couldn’t mix it up quite like Chick-fil-A could. (It was good, no doubt, but it wasn’t identical.) That proprietary blend of fruits and vegetables blended so sweetly, so subtly, that we were glad we could order it at our local Chick-fil-A 6 days a week.
It wasn’t long until we realized we’d have to perfect the recipe, because our favorite side dish would soon be gone forever. (Two of them—don’t even get us started on the Cole Slaw.) Once Chick-fil-A announced the end of Carrot and Raisin Salad, we were bereft. We looked into the horizon and saw Carrot and Raisin Salad-less lives in our future.
All was not lost, however. While we couldn’t concoct an exact Carrot and Raisin Salad taste-alike recipe, we now know that we don’t have to. When the Carrot and Raisin Salad left the menu, Chick-fil-A provided us their secret recipe, which you can download here. (Who knew it called for pineapple?) It will never replace the experience of walking into a franchise and ordering it off the menu, but it’ll do for now.
Thank you for the memories, Chick-fil-A. And if you ever feel the urge to bring back that zingy Carrot and Raisin Salad, you have a population of hungry, carrot-craving Southerners who will thank you.
Was this your favorite side too? We’d love to see the Carrot and Raisin Salad on the menu again.
