Just when we thought Southern cuisine couldn’t get any more interesting, koolickles come on the scene. You read that correctly. For the folks who don’t understand, let us explain. A koolickle is simply a pickle soaked in kool-aid, and we thought Southern kids would love it. Boy, were we wrong.
One little girl said it reminded her of sausage, while many others guessed it was some form of Jell-o. Just when we had a breakthrough with one kid, she promptly spit out the koolickle and yelled, “gross!”

But most were very, very confused – guessing it was some sort of fruit like a strawberry, watermelon, or tomato. One young boy thought his school class should see the koolickle because the food combination was so interesting. One of our favorite Southern kids was convinced there was no way it could be a pickle exclaiming, “It’s not even green!”
